grow with others who understand
Support Groups
Support groups at Mace Behavioral Health offer a unique opportunity to connect with others who truly understand your experiences. These groups are not just about providing support—they’re a space for learning, sharing, and growing together. Led by Ellis Mace PMHNP, our groups focus on specific challenges like bipolar disorder or trauma, offering both education and a safe environment for healing.
Unlike group therapy, which requires you to be a client, our support groups are open to anyone seeking community and connection. These groups emphasize education and support and help you gain insights from others, share your own journey, and walk away with practical tools to manage your mental health. You’re never alone in the process, and you’ll find strength and understanding in the shared experiences of others.
Support Groups
Frequently asked questions
Unlike therapy, support groups focus more on education and peer support, with less focus on individual treatment from a licensed professional.
Our focus groups focus on specific conditions such as bipolar disorder, depression, and trauma, offering practical advice and emotional support.
A psychologist typically has a doctoral degree in psychology and is trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders, conduct research, and provide therapy. A counselor may have a master's degree in counseling or a related field and typically focuses on providing counseling and support for individuals dealing with personal challenges, but may not be able to diagnose and treat mental health disorders.
In a counseling session, you will typically talk with a mental health professional about your concerns, challenges, and goals. The therapist may provide guidance, support, and feedback, and may suggest coping strategies or other techniques to help you improve your mental health and well-being.
The length of counseling varies depending on the individual and the nature of the concerns being addressed. Some people may only need a few sessions to work through a particular issue, while others may benefit from ongoing counseling over a longer period of time.
